Foundry Staggered Shake vs Foundry Split Shake Siding

Foundry Split Shake vs Foundry Staggered Shake? These are questions I am asked on a daily basis. I am also asked to describe the product and which would I use on my home.
First, let me try to describe the product. We'll start with Foundry 7 Inch Staggered Shake. It is by far our best selling profile now. It is also the only profile we sell in 50 sq ft cartons. (The rest we sell in 100 sq ft cartons) Staggered shake is the most aggressive texture featuring a jagged bottom edge. This bottom edge gives it a very rough and rugged profile. Not only does it have the uneven bottom edge, it also protrudes 1/4 of an inch further from the wall than other panels. This give a bold shadow line on the wall. While 1/4 Inch does not sound like much. it makes it 25% more bolder than its counterparts. In my opinion, this profile matches best on rustic homes but I have seen other applications where it looks awesome as well.
Next is Foundry Split Shake. For years this was THE panel of the Foundry. Long before Foundry introduced the 7 Inch Staggered shake, the 7 Inch Split Shake was king. Dominating about 90% of the sales was this rustic panel with a straight edge at the bottom. You also capture the rustic look while not going extreme rustic. The biggest difference between it and the staggered shake is the depth of the profile and of course the straight edge at the bottom.
Next is which product would I use on my home? Drum roll please......Foundry Split Shake. Why? I have a ranch style home which is quite a contemporary look. I thought that the split shake would match the style better. I almost opted of the Perfection shingle, which I will talk about in later blog posts, because of the straight lines and I wanted the style to match the home. Although the staggered shake is my favorite profile, it simply did not match my home.
